Exam Results

EXAMINATIONS 2009

Kings College has shown a dramatic improvement in headline examination results over the past 10 years and continues to be one of the most improved schools in the country, achieving a number of national awards from the Specialist School and Academies Trust to recognise this. This year’s results indicate that the College is continuing to move through the “most improved schools” tag to becoming a high achieving school in its own right. The College prides itself on its flexible approach to study, its commitment to personalised learning and its open examination entry policy where students can enter for end of key stage examinations as and when they are ready.

Year 11 GCSE OCR National and BTEC

Results at Key Stage 4 have increased over the last 10 years from a starting point of 10% at 5+A*-C to our present rate of 82%. We are pleased this year that, for the third year running, we have achieved a headline percentage of above the national average and we fully expect to continue this rapid upward trend in future years.

Early Entry GCSE

The College has a policy of early entry so that students can take examinations when they are reaady rather than keeping to national timeframes. This benefits students enormously by enabling them to spread the workload and helps to build confidence and motivation. Students in Year 9 in 2008 took their first GCSE's in Humanities and Science. The highest attaining students now have 2 high-grade GCSE's as they move into Year 10 - the traditional time for starting GCSE courses.

SIXTH FORM

International Baccalaureate

On the IB course, our students continue to achieve well in all areas and go on to gain entrance to university. This year, attainment improved with 35% of students achieving the IB diploma with scores ranging from 24 points (equivalent to two Bs and one C grade at A Level) through to 39 points and this student will be studying Languages at Oxford. All bar one of the remaining students achieved the IB certificate.

BTEC Baccalaureate

BTEC Baccalaureate results have also improved with all students passing all of their courses. Several students from the BTEC programme also secured places at UK universities, demonstrating the academic rigour of their studies.
