LIFE AFTER SIXTH FORM

Throughout their time at Kings students have access to a specialist university, apprenticeship and careers website called U-Explore alongside an opportunity to meet with a dedicated and independent careers adviser at the school. Please see our Careers Page for more useful links.

University:

We are incredibly proud of the varied university destinations and subjects that our former students have secured (see list below). Each student will have the opportunity to visit a university and our close links with Surrey University mean we have regular access to University Student Ambassadors, specialist finance teams and an opportunity to join a Young Persons University Course in the summer. Students will also gain specialist advice and guidance on applying through the UCAS process.

BTEC qualifications are graded as Distinction Star (D*), Distinction (D), Merit (M) and Pass (P). A table showing the UCAS Tariff  for BTEC / A-Level comparison is below:

UCAS TARIFF TABLE*:

*University Offers can range from 140 points upwards depending on the type of university and competitiveness of the course.

Apprenticeships:

There is a growing move towards on the job training through apprenticeships and students are made aware of the different ones available. There is a dedicated National Apprenticeship website that is both informative and insightful about types of apprenticeship and vacancies around the country and students are encouraged and supported to pursue this route.

Work Experience & Employment:

For many of our students having the opportunity to do part-time work is both a necessity and invaluable to their own personal development. Kings encourages and facilitates access to these opportunities through our flexible timetables allowing students to access more employment opportunities during the normal working week. We believe this not only supports students financially but also helps them develop the key skills of work-related discipline, teamwork and customer relations that are so important when moving out of full-time education.

In the summer term first year Sixth Form students are given the opportunity to partake in a week of work experience. For those that have not already experienced the reality of an adult working environment, this can be both challenging and eye-opening and Kings works hard to ensure every student that needs a placement can find one through our broad and varied contacts.
