Year 11 students embraced university life during a residential to the University of York.

A group of Year 11 students embraced university life as part of a 3-day residential from Monday 9th September to Wednesday 11th September 2019. Students travelled from Guildford to the University of York via trains and the underground and then spent three days focusing on the year ahead and their next steps.

On the Monday, students were introduced to the University of York, got creative during a series of icebreakers, went on a campus tour and took part in a session focusing on what their GCSE year had in store for them as well as completing a goal mapping activity. The evening saw students settle into their on-campus accommodation and go bowling.

Tuesday was a jam-packed day featuring a 'Next Steps' research session, revision skills and techniques, a university information talk, a session focusing on wellbeing, an academic taster in Psychology and refresher on exam skills and techniques. After a hard day's work students then embarked on exploring the historic city of York and celebrated the last evening of their residential with a meal at Nandos.

The final morning was filled with opportunities to think about talking positively and writing personal statements, considering careers and debating the benefits of certain qualifications for careers and finally a life skills session, encouraging students to consider budgeting and living independently.

Students were fantastic throughout the residential and were exceptional representatives for the school. They embraced the experience and every activity and were fully engaged.
