Kings College Christmas Concert

On Tuesday 18th December, students, staff, parents and invited guests went to Guildford Cathedral for the Carol Concert where many students performed. Students from Guildford Grove Primary School came centre stage and sang the first verse of 'Once in Royal David’s City' with everyone joining in on the second verse. It was nice to see Mr Heaton read Luke Chapter 2, Verses 1-20 and as he finished the KS4 vocal group, Sally Ames, Becca Thurley and Morgan Denyer sang an original song, composed by Becky Davies, called ‘Christmas Night’. Bethany Ayling danced and the congregation sat watching her intrigued. Next, Emma Dymott and Sam Yarrow read a dramatic reading of ‘A Night Before Christmas’, during which the whole congregation sat silently and listened carefully. After this the Choir sang the ‘Sussex Carol’ where the sopranos and altos sang beautifully in harmony with each other.

The second reading was by Head Girl, Alex Smith who read an extract from a poem about the First World War and then the orchestra, consisitng of flutes, clarinets and violins performed ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’. Afterwards our Chair of Governors, Les Ames, performed the third reading ‘Christmas is a time for Love and Fun’ by Nicholas Gordan. ‘Silent Night’ was then performed by Ashley Warden and Connor King on guitar, and Joe Crowder on drums. The trio performed well, and it was a wonderful piece. The final reading was by Mrs Carriett who read Matthew Chapter 2, Verses 1-12. The service closed with prayers and blessings, and everyone sang ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’. All in all the service was a huge success, and everyone should be proud of what they have done.
