We have launched a series of aspiration programmes, unique to Kings College, for each year group. Every student will participate in each programme; gaining knowledge, developing skills and being given opportunities to consider their future plans and pathways.

Our five programmes are:

World of Books – Year 7

Year 7s explore how books and reading can apply to the real world. They are given a book over the summer to read and then spend the autumn term exploring the text and taking part in activities such as subject tasters and visits from those with careers relating to books.

Destination Unknown – Year 8

Year 8s are supported to think about all the potential opportunities available to them through Destination Unknown. Throughout the year students will complete workbooks and take part in interactive sessions looking at various careers and how their school subjects can relate to future jobs. They will also think about their future education choices and begin to consider what options feel best for what they would like to do.

Mentor Me – Year 9

In Year 9, students focus on university with particular emphasis on student life. The programme introduces them to university and gets them thinking and using skills they might need; such as independence, communication, budgeting and trying new things. Students will work and speak with current university students to find out more about their experiences of education and from these sessions Year 9s will begin to map their own future plans.

The Apprenticeship – Year 10

Year 10 students are signed up to The Apprenticeship; a programme focusing on employability skills and pathways. Students will learn about apprenticeships and other pathways, take part in professional tasks such as CV writing, interviews and presentations to prepare them for making next steps applications.

Get Ready – Year 11

In Year 11, the focus is on supporting students to feel ready for exams and understanding the options available to them after school and beyond. Year 11s can access workshops on Post-16 options, attend revision and exam sessions, have drop-ins with the Aspirations Lead and take part in activities focusing on the importance of well-being during the exams period. Students should feel equipped and ready for all aspects of Year 11.
